About the Webinar

The focus of this Ultrasound webinar is on:

1- Fetal Cardiac Views
– Review of the standard cardiac views for prenatal assessment of the fetal heart
– Optimization of imaging
– What to look for in your standard images
– How to go above and beyond in your assessment

2-Push and Squeeze. The Lower Extremity Venous Challenge
– Be familiar with lower extremity venous anatomy
– Be aware of normal variants
– Know about lower extremity venous scanning techniques
– Tips for some common challenges

3- Best Practice Reprocessing for Ultrasound Probes in Canada
– Analyze recent research documenting patient outbreaks and infection risks related to improper ultrasound probe reprocessing
– Identify Federal guidelines (Health Canada), National standards (CSA) and the Spaulding classification system that define the disinfection requirements for endocavitary and external ultrasound probes
– Describe the steps required for reprocessing ultrasound probes including cleaning, disinfection, storage and traceability
– Identify factors that are important in the implementation of a high level disinfection workflow at a healthcare facility

Short Biographies

Sarah Zuccolo, CRGS, RDMS, DMS: Sarah graduated from McMaster University’s Medical Radiation Sciences program in 2017 under the Ultrasound specialty. She was then hired at McMaster Children’s Hospital where she has worked for 5 years. Through her experience at this centre she was trained in the specialties: pediatric ultrasound and high-risk obstetrical ultrasound. She continues to learn and grow her skill daily with the very talented team of sonographers, radiologists, and MFM obstetricians she works with.

Sara Laranjeiro, Clinical Applications Specialist, MRT(R),CTIC: Sara began her career in healthcare as a Radiological Technologist working in various healthcare settings. She recently decided to apply her healthcare knowledge in new ways and has transitioned into a role with Nanosonics, where she is a Clinical Applications Specialist. Nanosonics is the manufacture of devices used for High Level Disinfection of ultrasound probes and Sara’s role is to install the products and train users. She is also involved in educating others on the need of high level disinfection in healthcare and is passionate about ensuring patient safety in the healthcare setting.

Leonardo Faundez, MA-Ed BSc DMS RDMS RVT CRGS CRVS: Leonardo has been in the ultrasound field for more than 20 years as a sonographer, professor, entrepreneur, and lecturer. He graduated as a Ultrasound Technologist in 1997. He worked as a full-time sonographer and clinical instructor for about 7 years at University Health Network (UHN) and small healthcare facilities in Toronto, Canada. He also worked as an ultrasound faculty at The Michener Institute of Education at UHN for 10 years. He has a master’s degree in education from Central Michigan University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from York University. He has presented at several national and provincial conferences on several sonography topics and volunteered as the Vascular Editor of the Canadian Journal of Medical Sonography (CJMS) for 2 years. Leonardo is also the founder and owner of Aprende Canada where he offers ultrasound continuing education. He currently is the Ultrasound Lead Instructor in the Ultrasound Program at Anderson College.
