Short Biographies
Ms. Debbie Tarshis, LLB: Debbie Tarshis is counsel at the law firm of WeirFoulds LLP. WeirFoulds is a medium-sized law firm in Ontario which has provided legal services to its clients for over 150 years. Debbie acts as general counsel to professional regulatory bodies, including providing ongoing advice to the Colleges’ Registrars, boards of directors and committees on all of their policies, procedures and programs to regulate the professions in the public interest. She provides advice to the Colleges on legislative initiatives that affect their statutory mandate and the practice of the professions, and assists in preparing submissions to government advisory bodies and legislative standing committees. She also assists in the drafting and negotiation with government officials of regulations to be made under the relevant statute and their presentation to government from a policy and legal perspective. She has advised newly established regulatory bodies in developing their regulatory frameworks, by-laws and policies and procedures, and existing regulatory bodies in adding and integrating a new profession into an existing regulatory framework.
Debbie also provides advice on privacy law. She has developed leading expertise in the impact of privacy legislation on key stakeholders in the health care, research, professional regulatory and social services sector. Debbie has provided advice on the impact of the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act and provincial Personal Health Information Protection Act. She has provided advice to organizations on compliance with privacy legislation and the handling of privacy breaches.
Ms. Michelle Nash, B.MRSc., MRT(R), CTIC, CIR : Michelle Nash is a MRT at Trillium Health Partners in Mississauga and specializes in Computed Tomography and Interventional Radiology. She is currently a dedicated member of the Neurointerventional Program, with a focus on the endovascular treatment for patients with acute ischemic stroke. Michelle holds a Bachelor of Medical Radiation Sciences from McMaster University and has achieved both the CTIC and CIR designations from the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists. She is currently studying at the University of Toronto – Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, working towards her Master of Education.
Ms. Ling Yu, B.M.Sc. (Hons), MRT(R), CTIC (R): Ling Yu has been a CT/angiography technologist at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (SHSC) since 2012. She has obtained her B.M.Sc.(Hons) from the University of Toronto/The Michener Institute of Applied Health Sciences Joint Medical Radiation Sciences Program. Since then , she has acquired extensive angiography experience assisting alongside radiologists in procedures such as trauma embolizations, stroke endovascular thrombolysis, etc. She is also trained in PICC line insertions and assistance. Currently, she is also the primary investigator of a practice-based research project in medical imaging. She immensely enjoys reading sci/fi novels and is always deep in thought about the universe.
Mr. Alex Moukbel, BBA , I-MBA: Alex Moukbel is a Senior Sales Manager, Boston Scientific Canada, located in the GTA, Peripheral Interventions division. Alex has 11 years of sales experience in various positions in Canada and the US. He is a graduate of York University Schulich School of business, BBA , I-MBA. He worked in Vascular Interventional Radiology and Neurovascular divisions. Alex Won multiple awards over the years, including 3 President’s Club awards.
Ms. Marvalyn Whyte, CDR, BSc, MRT(R), CTIC, CIR: Ms. Whyte is a CT/IR technologist at the Scarborough and Rouge Hospital General campus and a casual CT technologist at the North York General Hospital. Marvalyn has been a MRT for over 30 years, with 10 years experience in CT and IR. She has held various positions which includes general MRT, managerial, and teaching roles. She obtained her diploma in Radiography from the School of Medical Radiation Technology in Kingston, Jamaica. In addition, she holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of the West Indies in Management Studies, Economics and International Relations. Marvalyn believes in continuing education and professional development and has completed the Advance certificate in CT Imaging and Interventional Radiology with the CAMRT. Marvalyn is also a external instructor at the Michener Institute of Applied Health Sciences where she works with Internationally Trained Professionals in the Radiography Bridging program.
